Naxal insurgents launched an IED attack in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, resulting in the death of ASP Akash Rao Giripunje and injuries to multiple other police officers. The explosion took place near Dondra village. The ASP, who held the position of Additional Superintendent of Police (Konta Division), was critically wounded and later died from his injuries. The injured were taken to Konta hospital. The patrol was underway due to a bandh called by the Naxalites. The IED blast occurred between 9 and 10 am. Deputy CM Vijay Shamra stated that the ASP was on a foot patrol to prevent any Naxal incidents. Search operations have been intensified following the attack. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region. Prior incidents, such as the attack in Bijapur in early 2025, underscore the persistent threat of Naxal violence in the state.
