Raipur, February 11, 2026/ Reading a newspaper daily is a beneficial habit for students. It gives them the opportunity to be aware of current events, important issues, and diverse opinions. This habit enhances their reading and writing skills by exposing them to quality language and well-structured content. In a commendable and innovative initiative taken by the Government Primary School, Peepardand, in the Premnagar development block of Surguja district, education is being connected to life rather than being confined to bookish knowledge alone. Newspaper reading has been included in the daily routine of the students in the school. This effort is a meaningful step towards transforming exam-centric education into knowledge-centric education.
The main objective of this initiative is not only to develop a reading habit among students but also to inspire them to think, understand, reason, and ask questions. Assistant teacher Mr. Rajendra Jaiswal stated that in the current times, the reading culture among children is weakening due to increasing mobile screen time. In such a situation, newspaper reading has emerged as an effective medium for educational reform. Under the new system, the school’s prayer meeting will no longer be limited to just disciplinary activity but will develop into a school of awareness. Students will read the major headlines of the newspaper daily and become aware of current events happening around the country and the world.
Additionally, one day a week, students will be encouraged to engage in original writing and group discussions on an editorial topic. This will foster the development of critical thinking, communication skills, expression ability, and moral values among children. This innovative initiative by the school is being widely appreciated in the region. This effort will undoubtedly play a significant role in the all-round development of the students.
