A total of 47 inmates at the Raigarh District Jail will be observing fasts during the Sharadiya Navratri. These include 40 men and 7 women, as confirmed by District Jail Superintendent G.S. Shori. Out of a total inmate population of 800, 47 inmates have chosen to participate in the fasts. The jail administration has organized special provisions to accommodate their religious practices. Thirty of the fasting inmates will undertake the fast for the entire nine-day period, while the remaining seventeen will fast on specific days. Separate living quarters have been designated for these inmates, ensuring a conducive environment for prayers and devotional activities. Dietary needs will also be met with special provisions for fruit-based meals during the fasts. The jail administration has also made arrangements for prayer items, Kalash installation, and musical instruments. The premises have been prepared to create a serene and spiritual atmosphere for the inmates. This initiative by the jail management acknowledges the religious beliefs of the inmates and promotes a rehabilitative approach. Superintendent Shori highlighted that such religious observances encourage positivity and self-contemplation, which can assist in their reintegration.
