In an effort to reduce road accident fatalities, Raipur police are now enforcing the mandatory provision of helmets with the sale of all new two-wheeled vehicles. Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Lal Umed Singh has issued an order to all two-wheeler showroom operators, emphasizing the importance of this safety measure. This decision follows a concerning trend of road accidents involving two-wheeler riders sustaining head injuries. Statistics show that over 190 people have died in the past seven months due to such accidents. Police have issued over 20,495 challans to those riding without helmets in the past seven months. The directive is based on existing legal provisions and aims to improve compliance. Showroom operators failing to adhere to the rule will face consequences, including potential suspension or revocation of their business licenses. The SSP urged both vehicle vendors and citizens to prioritize helmet use for road safety.
