An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxalite elements caused an explosion in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, resulting in injuries to a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan on Sunday afternoon. The blast happened at approximately 1:45 PM in the forested terrain near Gogunda, within the jurisdiction of Fulbagdi police station. Reports indicate that the jawan, a member of the CRPF’s 74th Battalion, was on an area domination patrol when he accidentally stepped on a pressure IED. The explosion caused significant injuries to his legs. Security personnel provided on-site first aid, and the injured jawan was subsequently transported by air to Raipur for advanced medical treatment. The Bastar region, particularly Sukma, is known for Naxalite activity, with insurgents often using IEDs along patrol routes to target security forces and, tragically, sometimes civilians. A recent incident on June 9 saw an IED blast kill an Additional Superintendent of Police and injure two others in Sukma.
