Sukma Sees Mass Surrender of 23 Naxals Worth ₹1.18 Crore, Citing Government Programs

A major development in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district saw 23 Naxals surrender on Friday, marking a considerable success for the anti-Naxal drive. These individuals collectively had ₹1.18 crore in bounties declared against them. The surrendering group included 8 hardcore Naxals affiliated with the PLGA battalion, alongside others active in different Naxal organizations. The breakdown of the surrendered individuals includes 1 DVCM, 6 PPCMs, 4 ACMs, and 12 party members, encompassing 9 women and 14 men, notably including 3 Naxal couples. The surrender was motivated by the state government’s “Chhattisgarh Naxalite Surrender Rehabilitation Policy” and the “Niyad Nella Nar Yojana,” alongside the strategic placement of security camps in distant territories and enhanced police operations. Details of the bounties included: ₹8 lakh for 11 Naxals, ₹5 lakh for 4 Naxals, ₹3 lakh for 1 Naxal, and ₹1 lakh for 7 Naxals. This event is regarded as a significant success for the Chhattisgarh government, potentially leading to further surrenders by other Naxals.
