Manendra Patel, Durg. Teachers’ Day is celebrated across the country on 5 September. On this day, 50 teachers from across the country will be awarded the President’s Award for their outstanding contribution. This year, K. Sharda, a handicapped teacher from Bhilai, Chhattisgarh has been selected for this award.

Let us tell you, K. Sharda of Durg district is the first disabled teacher of the state who is going to receive the President’s Award on Teacher’s Day. On September 5, President Draupadi Murmu will honour her with the National Teacher Award. This award is being given to her for her dedicated work towards education and students and for her innovation.

It is said that if you have the courage to do something, you can find ways to move forward even in difficult situations. K. Sharda has proved this to be true. She is currently a mathematics teacher at the Government Pre-Secondary School in Khedamara of Durg district. Sharda has brought a big change in the learning ability of students through innovation in the field of education.

K. Sharada says that if teachers in government schools want, good education can be given to children even with less resources. We should not depend on the government for everything. K. Sharada said that during her schooling, people never gave her a chance to come forward, but after becoming a teacher, she innovated to teach her students with new techniques.

He told that there was a big change in his life during Covid. During Covid, he started making videos on different topics of mathematics through teaching-learning-material. Which became very popular across the state. At the same time, he made studying easy in a playful way by creating audio-video books, e-content, PDFs.

K. Sharada has written 20 books on different subjects to make the curriculum easier. Some of these books have been included in the curriculum in government schools in the state. Earlier, Sharada was also honoured with the Governor’s Award last year.

He was awarded the country’s highest civilian honor “Bharat Ratna”. Keeping in mind the work done by him in the field of education, Teacher’s Day is celebrated every year on his birth anniversary i.e. 5 September since 1962.
