Purushottam Patra, Gariaband. Villagers blocked the main road from Mainpur headquarter of Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh to Mainpur Kala Pandripani this morning again. A small bridge built in the 90s from the project fund broke down 7 years ago. Since then, villagers have been demanding the construction of a bridge by blocking the road every year.

Let us tell you, the villagers had already warned about the agitation to be held today. More than 500 villagers had blocked the national highway under the leadership of District Panchayat member Lokeshwari Netam from 9 am today. Due to the jam, the movement of vehicles on both sides of the highway was disrupted for hours.

Approval for construction of bridge at a cost of Rs 5.70 crore

After getting the information, SDM, SDOP and SDO of PWD bridge department S K Pandole reached the spot and got the road opened by persuading the villagers. SDO said that the money has been approved for a 100 meter long high level bridge at this place in 2024. Paperwork is going on. Work will be started as soon as the tender process is completed. After this assurance from the officers, the villagers ended the protest and the road was opened again.
