Delhi is set to embark on a major overhaul of its stray dog management and rabies control efforts. The Delhi’s animal welfare board, in response to the Supreme Court’s recent guidance, met on Wednesday to outline key initiatives. The plans include microchipping one million stray dogs, implementing stricter regulations for pet shops, and launching a comprehensive Rabies Action Plan. The Rabies Action Plan will feature digitized vaccination records and district-level monitoring committees. Furthermore, the city will focus on preventing dog bite incidents. All pet shops in Delhi will be required to register with a monitoring committee, ensuring adherence to regulations. The meeting also addressed financial and administrative aspects, including resource allocation and committee formation. Awareness campaigns will be a central part of the plan, with school-level programs and market monitoring initiatives. Officials will prepare a detailed advisory covering rabies control, microchipping, pet shop registration, and awareness strategies, utilizing social media platforms for broader reach.
