Delivery Boy’s Death Sparks Protest and Tear Gas in North 24 Parganas

A road accident in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, resulted in the death of a delivery boy, leading to unrest in the area. A crowd assembled at the site and began protesting, resulting in stone-pelting between the police and the demonstrators. The police employed tear gas to regain control and scatter the protesters. The event took place near Salt Lake between Wednesday and Thursday night. Eyewitness accounts describe the delivery boy traveling towards Salt Lake, stopping at a signal, and being struck by a four-wheeler. His leg became trapped in a rod, and the vehicle subsequently burst into flames, causing the delivery boy to be consumed by the fire. Witnesses reported that no one offered immediate assistance after the collision. Furthermore, they claimed that the police deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd that gathered following the accident. A police official stated that they discovered a burning car and a deceased person upon arriving at the location. They rescued the other trapped individuals and sent them to the hospital. Despite the fire brigade’s presence, some individuals persisted in throwing stones. Initially, the police refrained from taking action but eventually had to use tear gas to disperse the crowd when they attempted to block the road.
