The Election Commission of India took a decisive step toward electoral excellence by hosting a National Roundtable with State Election Commissioners on February 24, 2026, at New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar presided, supported by Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi. Commissioners from every state and Union Territory arrived with their specialists, complemented by Chief Electoral Officers.
Purity in voter rolls dominated the discourse, positioned as democracy’s lifeblood. CEC Kumar asserted that transparent, efficient elections are key to democratic vitality, urging constitutional-level coordination.
Innovative sharing mechanisms for ECI’s advanced assets—including the digital ECI-Net, EVM technology, voter data, and institutional expertise—gained traction. Aligning local election statutes with parliamentary norms, boosting international participation, and instituting yearly national meets were highlighted.
State feedback will be rigorously evaluated by collaborative ECI teams, yielding actionable plans per state/UT in the coming quarter, all in service of the republic.
