Chhattisgarh’s security apparatus delivered twin victories over Maoist insurgents: two killed in a Bijapur firefight and two others imprisoned in Dantewada. The Indravati River encounter on Thursday morning highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-led anti-Naxal sweeps.
A joint security contingent, tipped off about rebel hideouts, penetrated deep into Bijapur’s forested expanse. Insurgents initiated hostilities, but superior tactics and firepower from the forces turned the tide, resulting in two Maoist fatalities.
Searches post-clash revealed SLR, INSAS, and 12-bore rifles, coupled with explosives and sundry insurgent supplies. SP Jitendra Yadav hailed it as a pivotal win, while IGP Sundarraj Pattingal noted ongoing area domination efforts.
Shifting to the legal front, Dantewada’s judiciary sentenced Sukma natives Hunga alias Guttam Sodi and Joga Kudami to five years RI and Rs 5,000 penalties. Caught with bombs in May 2024, their case under special acts showcased ironclad prosecution.
The court, after rigorous evidence review, upheld charges for possessing and controlling explosives. This combination of kinetic and non-kinetic measures is steadily reclaiming Bastar from Maoist shadows, fostering development and normalcy.
