The severe heat conditions in Kashmir have triggered the swift melting of the ice Shiva Lingam at the Amarnath cave temple, disrupting the annual pilgrimage. Pilgrims have observed the rapid deterioration of the naturally formed ice structure, a central element of the sacred site. The Amarnath Yatra, which began recently, is experiencing the adverse effects of the heatwave, with the Shiva Lingam melting at an unprecedented rate. This year’s melting is notably faster than previous years, with the Lingam nearly vanished within the initial ten days. Despite this, the pilgrimage continues, with devotees undeterred in their faith. The melting is linked to climate change, impacting glaciers and weather patterns in the region, as well as increased human activity during the Yatra.
