The early monsoon season has brought significant challenges to apple farmers in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu and Mandi regions. With apple picking set to begin, concerns arise due to the impact of heavy rains on crops. However, improved road connectivity, including the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) network, provides a crucial advantage. This infrastructure allows for alternative routes and facilitates transportation to markets in Chandigarh, Delhi, and other locations. Rapid road clearance and cold storage facilities further support farmers. While some villages remain unconnected, the availability of smaller transport vehicles and the increased MIP for apples offer some optimism. The focus is now on ensuring the smooth movement of the harvest and maintaining the quality of the fruit.
