In a heartfelt tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg, Assam’s Deputy Speaker, Numal Momin, has suggested the formation of a Zubeen Garg Memorial Trust. This charitable organization would be dedicated to assisting the most vulnerable in society, including the impoverished, widows, orphans, and marginalized groups. A key objective would be to provide educational opportunities through scholarships for needy students. Momin articulated that this trust would serve as a lasting monument to Garg’s humanitarian spirit, allowing his memory to live on through concrete acts of support. He proposed a broad base for the trust, inviting all citizens of Assam to become members, fostering a collective effort in philanthropy. The passing of Zubeen Garg, a voice cherished across India, was lamented by Momin as a significant loss to culture and art. Addressing the ongoing investigation into the singer’s death, Momin voiced faith in the Assam government’s diligent approach, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He highlighted the formation of an SIT and a judicial committee to ensure a transparent and comprehensive inquiry. The Deputy Speaker assured that every possible measure would be taken to ascertain the cause of death and achieve justice for Garg, including referral to the CBI if initial investigations prove insufficient. The report mentions that five arrests have been made in connection with the case.
