IIT Madras marked a significant moment with the inauguration of ‘Agnishodh’, the Indian Army Research Cell (IARC), by Gen Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff. The research cell seeks to equip military personnel with expertise in cutting-edge technologies, including additive manufacturing, cybersecurity, quantum computing, wireless communication, and unmanned systems. This collaboration with IIT Madras aligns with the goal of enhancing the Indian Army’s technological capabilities and achieving self-reliance in defense. Partnerships with AMTDC and the Pravartak Technologies Foundation will also be key. Gen Dwivedi addressed the gathering, providing an overview of ‘Operation Sindoor’ and its importance in India’s fight against terrorism. He described it as a strategic operation that involved careful planning and execution. The use of indigenous technology and precise military actions were emphasized as integral to India’s proactive security posture. Furthermore, Gen Dwivedi commended the IIT faculty for their role in contributing to the nation’s progress via academic excellence. Dwivedi described ‘Operation Sindoor’ as akin to a strategic chess match. A rapid response, post the events of April 22nd, was initiated, involving key decisions and target execution. A meeting with the Prime Minister took place on April 29th. Dwivedi highlighted the operation’s unifying effect on the nation.
