The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports the progress of the southwest monsoon towards northern and central India, bringing a welcome change after weeks of extreme heat. The weather department projects that India will receive above-average rainfall towards the end of June. This prediction comes amidst an ongoing heatwave across multiple regions, promising much-needed relief for residents. Torrential rains are expected between June 17th and 20th in West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. The forecast also includes Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan. The IMD has also cautioned about strong surface winds in Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam. A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi, indicating the likelihood of rain in the capital this week.
