Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, reported a six percent reduction in India’s logistics costs, now at 10%, attributing the decline to better road infrastructure developed by the NDA government. In an interview, Gadkari linked this development to the goal of transforming India into a ‘Vishwa Guru’ and achieving a 5 trillion dollar economy. He stressed the need to increase exports to drive growth in various sectors and create employment opportunities. Gadkari pointed out that high logistics costs previously hindered India’s competitiveness, but that improvements in roads and ports, along with reduced fuel expenses and traffic delays, have significantly lowered these costs. He projects further cost reductions and anticipates Indian road infrastructure to be on par with the US within two years.
