Authorities in Odisha are investigating a tragic incident where a mother and her newborn baby died after a delivery performed by an unqualified practitioner. The proprietor of a nursing home in Ganjam district was arrested on Sunday for allegedly conducting the delivery without proper medical credentials. The police stated that Mangulu Charan Pradhan, the nursing home owner, along with two ANMs, were involved in the botched delivery on May 11. The incident occurred in the absence of a registered medical professional. Babu Nayak, the husband of the deceased woman, filed the complaint that led to Pradhan’s arrest. The two ANMs, Madhusmita Pattanayak and Pramodini Gamango, were arrested earlier. The nursing home had provided assurances of adequate facilities for a safe delivery, prompting Roji Nayak’s admission on the day of the incident.
