Aditya Sahu, a Rajya Sabha member, has been appointed as the working president of the BJP’s Jharkhand unit. Sahu acknowledged the support of PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, highlighting his commitment to the party and national interests. He committed to serving the BJP with integrity and dedication.
The appointment, announced by BJP’s national president JP Nadda, sees Sahu succeeding Ravindra Kumar Rai, who held the position since last October, ahead of the state assembly elections. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had defeated the BJP-led NDA in those elections. Sahu’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha occurred in 2022, and he was subsequently elected without opposition.
The swift change in leadership signals the BJP’s intent to restructure its state unit and reinforce its organizational capacity in the eastern state. Sahu expressed his gratitude to key figures including PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and JP Nadda.
Speaking in Ranchi, Sahu recounted his long-standing association with the BJP since 1980, emphasizing his dedication to serving the party. He stressed the importance of the party and national interests. Upon assuming his new role, Sahu expressed his commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him.
Sahu reflected on his early days as a party worker, including his involvement in distributing slips during the 1980 elections. He recalled working diligently for the party even in challenging conditions. He noted his progression through the ranks, holding various positions such as district vice-president and serving on the state working committee. He also served as the organization’s general secretary. He is now taking on the role of working president, which he intends to execute with utmost integrity.
The appointment of Aditya Sahu, a member of the OBC community, as the Jharkhand working president is a strategic move by the BJP to secure the OBC vote bank in the state. Hailing from Kunchu village in Ranchi, Sahu has been a BJP supporter for over forty years and is believed to have considerable public influence. He currently holds a position as a BJP Rajya Sabha MP and has experience teaching children.
