Demands for outstanding student scholarship payments echoed outside the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly as AJSU Party MLA Nirmal Mahto led a protest on Friday. Mahto, who also serves as the central general secretary for the party and represents the Mandu constituency, focused his demonstration on the urgent need to release pending post-matric scholarships for students belonging to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes. He emphasized that the AJSU student union has been persistently advocating for these scholarship disbursements and recently presented a petition to the Governor. Mahto expressed deep concern that tribal, Dalit, and backward class students have not received their scholarship funds for the past two years, with the government showing little apparent commitment to resolving the issue. Students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are resorting to part-time employment to cover their expenses, which is detrimentally affecting their studies. The MLA further pointed out the financial difficulties faced by the state government, implying that even their own development initiatives are struggling for funding, thus exacerbating the overall financial instability and impacting educational support.
