A fake Facebook profile has been created in the name of Manjunath Bhajantri, an IAS officer and the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, Jharkhand. The profile used Bhajantri’s picture and sent friend requests to over 2,000 people, potentially to defraud them. The district administration quickly responded by issuing a public advisory, warning citizens to be cautious and not accept friend requests from the fraudulent account. An official notification was released, emphasizing that the fake profile had no connection with the real IAS officer and was intended for malicious activities. The cyber crime unit has begun a detailed investigation and an FIR has been lodged against the perpetrators. Previously, a similar incident occurred involving a fake profile of the DGP of Jharkhand.
