A case of alleged assault on the wife and daughter-in-law of Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly and former Chief Minister, has been reported. The incident resulted in severe injuries to their driver. The incident is said to have occurred at the Amrit Nagar Puja Pandal in Hazaribag. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and started investigating the matter by reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses present at the scene.
Preeti Kisku, the daughter-in-law of Marandi, reported that the incident occurred around 7:15 PM when she and her mother-in-law were en route from Giridih to Ranchi. During the event, her driver sustained serious injuries. Police officers were allegedly present at the location, yet no intervention occurred.
The incident occurred when their vehicle encountered a traffic jam caused by the immersion procession near the Amrit Nagar Puja Pandal. When the driver asked the crowd to clear the way, a dispute erupted. Some individuals allegedly assaulted the driver, and when Preeti tried to intervene, she was verbally abused.
Preeti Kisku has requested that authorities take decisive action against the Amrit Nagar Puja Committee members. Hazaribag police are conducting an investigation based on the complaint. Babulal Marandi was the inaugural Chief Minister of Jharkhand, serving from November 2000 to March 2003. He was also the founder of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik), which eventually merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party. The alleged attack has sparked concerns about the state’s law and order situation.
