The cabinet convened to address the proposal for declaring the Saranda region, renowned in West Singhbhum district, as a Wildlife Sanctuary. A Group of Ministers has been constituted to analyze the proposal and advise the government on the decision-making process. This group will delve into the economic and social dimensions of the area, subsequently presenting its findings to the state government. Input from all pertinent departments and stakeholders will also be considered. This will culminate in a final decision by the cabinet. The proposed sanctuary aims to protect 575.19 square kilometers, including villages like Ankuwa, Samta, Karampada, Gudlibag, Trikoshi, and Thalkuwad within West Singhbhum district. The Saranda forest is considered a treasure trove, harboring the endangered flying lizard, over 40 species of mammals, 162 species of birds, nine species of amphibians, and 33 species of reptiles.
