Tension flared in Gumla as the municipal council launched an anti-encroachment drive targeting vegetable vendors. The situation quickly deteriorated into a physical altercation. Reports indicate that a municipal council worker hit a woman vendor and her child with a bamboo stick while attempting to remove the vendors. This action provoked the vendors to attack the municipal workers. The police had to step in to safeguard the municipal council staff. In protest against the bulldozer action, the shopkeepers blocked the Ranchi-Chhattisgarh road. The road blockade lasted for about two hours, causing significant traffic congestion. The SDPO and Inspector eventually managed to negotiate with the protestors, leading to the road being cleared. A meeting was later held at the local police station to address the concerns of both the municipal council and the vegetable vendors.
