A significant meeting took place in Hazaribagh on July 8th, spearheaded by Labor Superintendent Anil Ranjan, to address labor issues within the transport sector. The meeting involved passenger vehicle and transport operators, and the primary aim was to ensure workers receive their due wages and benefits. Ranjan warned that strict action would be taken against those failing to comply with labor regulations. Key directives were issued, emphasizing the importance of the Motor Transport Workers Act of 1961, which limits working hours to eight per day for transport workers, including drivers and assistants. The directives also mandate the payment of wages into workers’ bank accounts by the 7th of each month, in accordance with the Payment of Wages Act of 1936. The Labor Superintendent highlighted instances of unfair treatment towards workers by some operators, and reiterated the need to comply with all guidelines, including those following Supreme Court orders. Furthermore, the guidelines strictly prohibit the involvement of minors in any transport-related activities. During the meeting, operators also had the opportunity to raise their concerns and issues.
