In a recent hearing, the Jharkhand High Court addressed the issue of vacant positions in the state’s jails. The court, acting on a suo motu PIL, heard arguments from the state government. The bench, led by Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice Rajesh Shankar, has instructed the government to submit a status report detailing the actions taken to fill these vacant posts. The court has set August 12 as the date for the next hearing. The state government has previously indicated that appointments are underway after the model jail manual received cabinet approval.
