In a significant move, the village council of Dhora Basti, situated in Baliguma Daher Tola near the NH in Jamshedpur, has decided to enforce a complete ban on alcohol. The decision, reached through a consensus during a village meeting, reflects the community’s concern over the negative impacts of liquor. Ranjit Dhora, who chaired the meeting, urged the villagers to unite and take decisive steps towards peace, security, and social reform. The community highlighted that seven mahua liquor shops were previously operating in Dhora Basti. While four vendors have accepted the council’s decision and closed their shops, three vendors—Sanjay Dhora (Kanhu Dhora), Khukhi Dhora, Purnima Khutia, and Vishnu Dhora (Hablu Dhora)—continue their illegal alcohol sales, creating social unrest in the village. Village council representatives from Dhora Basti met with the Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday to provide a detailed account of the situation and submit a memorandum. The villagers are hopeful that the administration’s intervention will foster enduring peace, improve social conditions, and safeguard the welfare of women and children. The meeting was attended by a large number of local residents, including Gulu Dhora, Jono Dhora, Jushna Vibhar, Chumki Dhora, Chamatkar Dhora, Subita Dhora, Kamala Dhora, Sombari Dhibar, Sabita Dhora, Romi Nath, Kartik Dhora, Lokhim Nath, Deepak Dhora, Ladhen Dhora, Chhotu Nath, Anil Dhora, Deepak Ranjit, Rakhal Soren, Chaman Singh, and Sonu Singh, among others.
