The UP STF successfully took down Ashish Ranjan, a wanted gangster from Jharkhand, in an encounter in Prayagraj. Ranjan, also known as Chhotu Singh, was a significant criminal figure from Dhanbad with a lengthy criminal history. He was involved in dozens of serious cases across multiple states, including murder, extortion, and robbery. Furthermore, he was considered a key shooter for gangster Aman Singh, and was involved in Singh’s murder. Following Aman Singh’s murder in Dhanbad jail on December 3, 2023, Ashish Ranjan publicly claimed responsibility through a viral social media video. Ranjan was also implicated in the murder of coal businessman, Neeraj Tiwari, as well as the killings of land traders Sarful Hasan (Lala Khan) and Samir Mandal.
