Babulal Marandi, the leader of the opposition in Jharkhand and state BJP president, has accused the current government of a deliberate strategy to fabricate new offenses to mask ongoing criminal activities. Marandi stated that the practice of manufacturing crimes to hide existing ones has become an ingrained habit for the government and the administrative system in Jharkhand. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids in Dhanbad’s coal empire have reportedly brought to light shocking evidence. However, a particularly concerning development is the alleged instruction from ‘high-ranking police officials,’ reportedly profiting from illegal coal trade wealth, to ‘permanently eliminate’ key associates of coal mafia operators. Sources indicate that individuals currently cooperating with the ED are being targeted for assassination to prevent them from divulting sensitive information. Marandi recalled past incidents in the state where ‘encounters’ were allegedly staged to destroy evidence rather than apprehend offenders. He referenced a former DGP accused of orchestrating contract killings and setting new benchmarks for corruption, with even members of the ruling party making these accusations. The opposition leader strongly advised the ED to be highly vigilant, noting that truth-tellers are suppressed while those who conceal facts prevail. When the nexus between political power, the enforcement system, and organized crime becomes entrenched, the subversion of justice is an inevitable outcome.
