Jharkhand Workers Safely Return Home from Tunisia

A group of 48 migrant laborers from Jharkhand have finally returned home after being stranded in Tunisia for three months. The workers, originating from Bokaro, Hazaribagh, and Giridih districts, had been struggling with unpaid wages and a lack of food. Their safe homecoming was made possible through the efforts of social activist Sikandar Ali, coupled with proactive measures from the government and the company involved. Upon receiving information about the stranded workers, Chief Minister Hemant Soren issued instructions for their immediate repatriation. Labor department officials met with the returnees to understand their challenges. The state government has committed to integrating the workers and their families into various social security programs. These workers were recruited by PCL Prem Power Construction Limited and had not received their salaries for a considerable period, leading to their crisis in the African nation. The government’s swift action underscores its dedication to protecting the rights and well-being of migrant workers.
