A severe disciplinary measure at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Bangurda, near Jamshedpur, led to the fainting of four students. The incident occurred when a teacher penalized the students with 200 sit-ups for a minor delay in returning from a Shiv temple visit on Shravan Somwari. The affected students, identified as Priyanka Mahato, Ashtami Mahato, Dayavati Pramanik, and Purnima Mahato, experienced health issues due to the punishment. The students were first taken to Macha CHC and later transferred to MGM Hospital, Dimna for treatment. Local officials and community leaders, including MLA Mangal Kalindi, responded to the situation. Vimal Baitha, a former BJP leader, expressed concern and attributed the girls’ condition to the punishment administered shortly after they had eaten breakfast, leading to a drop in their oxygen levels. He has demanded accountability for the incident, highlighting the severity of the school’s disciplinary approach.
