The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party is facing a crisis as it deals with the deaths of two key leaders within a year. The recent passing of Ramdas Soren, the Education Minister, has created uncertainty about the future leadership in the Kolhan region. Soren’s death in Delhi comes shortly after the passing of the party’s founder. This has led to a period of mourning and concern within the JMM. The Kolhan area, comprising East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Saraikela-Kharsawan, has been a stronghold for the JMM, but the loss of these leaders poses a challenge to the party’s dominance. The death of Jagannath Mahto in April 2023, another influential figure within the JMM, preceded the current crisis. With several prominent leaders still active, the JMM will need to navigate the political landscape carefully.
