Jharkhand’s opposition leader, Babulal Marandi, has voiced grave concerns, accusing the state government of manufacturing new criminal incidents to cover up ongoing illicit activities. He claims that the government and its associated systems have developed a pattern of fabricating offenses to obscure the truth. The ED’s recent operations within Dhanbad’s coal mafias have brought to light significant, unsettling evidence. What is particularly concerning, according to Marandi, is the alleged directive from high-ranking police officers, whose wealth is purportedly linked to illegal coal trade, to eliminate key ground operatives of the coal mafia. This is seen as a direct attempt to silence witnesses and obstruct the ED’s investigation into individuals being questioned. Marandi pointed to a history of ‘evidence encounters’ in Jharkhand, where criminals are allegedly killed to prevent them from revealing damaging truths. He recalled a past DGP notorious for alleged contract killings and unprecedented corruption, with accusations even coming from ruling party members. The opposition leader stressed the need for the ED to be exceptionally vigilant, highlighting a state where truth-tellers are suppressed, and the powerful thrive on deception. When the lines between governance, the enforcement system, and criminal elements blur, the subversion of justice is tragically expedited.
