East Singhbhum is reeling from a string of audacious burglaries that saw thieves pilfer lakhs worth of cash and precious jewelry from three separate homes in the Ulidih police station jurisdiction late Tuesday night. The coordinated incidents, occurring in close proximity to the police station, have amplified resident concerns.
In the first reported incident, Bajanti Devi’s residence on Shankosai Road Number 2 was targeted. The family had left for a relative’s wedding ceremony, locking their home at 9 PM. Their return around 2 AM revealed a broken main gate lock. An inspection inside confirmed that an almirah had been emptied of Rs 70,000 in cash and a staggering Rs 20 lakh worth of gold and silver jewelry. The shock of the loss was immense.
Simultaneously, thieves also infiltrated the home of Oranganath, located on the upper floor of the same building. This burglary resulted in the theft of Rs 20,000 in cash and approximately Rs 12 lakh worth of ornaments. Together, these two burglaries represent a combined loss of around Rs 90,000 in cash and over Rs 32 lakh in precious jewelry.
Further exacerbating the situation, a third home, belonging to Pawan Kumar and situated just 200 meters from the Ulidih police station, was also breached. Mr. Kumar was attending a family event in Adityapur, and upon returning late, discovered his home’s lock forced open and jewelry valued at roughly Rs 20 lakh missing from his almirah.
The police department has been informed about all three burglaries. Law enforcement officials have commenced a thorough investigation, examining the crime scenes and scrutinizing available CCTV footage. The recent spate of thefts has instilled widespread apprehension among the community members.
