Narendra Kumar Shukla, a resident of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, has reported the theft of his elephant. He filed a complaint with the Palamu police. According to his statement, Narendra received a female elephant named Jaymati on a ‘zimmedari’ (responsibility) basis. Due to inadequate provisions for the elephant’s upkeep in his village, he brought it to Zorkat, near Palamu in Jharkhand. He entrusted the elephant to mahouts Munna Pathak and Munna Pandey, also from Mirzapur, before returning.
