A significant water supply failure in Mango, impacting residents on a festive Sunday, has drawn sharp criticism from local legislator Saryu Rai. The Jamshedpur West MLA visited the Mango drinking water project’s intake well and a key water storage tank to assess the situation. His findings indicated a clear case of negligence by both the project authorities and the contractor managing operations. Rai expressed his intent to formally charge the Executive Engineer of the drinking water department for failing to perform duties, vowing to pursue government action. He also plans to advocate for the blacklisting of the contractor responsible for the Mango drinking water project. Investigations at the intake well revealed it was choked with silt, suggesting a long period without maintenance. Following intervention with the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Mango Nagar Nigam, the silt was cleared, restoring water flow. Staff at the Prithvi Park tank revealed that water deliveries from the treatment plant were sporadic, occurring only a few times a week, a problem they attributed to the contractor’s inconsistent service and departmental oversight. This irregular supply is causing significant hardship during festivals when water demand is highest.
