Tragedy was narrowly avoided in Khunti on Sunday following a frightening incident on the Torpa Main Road. A trailer truck, parked near Mahadev Fruit shop by its driver for a quick errand, suddenly started rolling backward. The driver had reportedly gone to buy fruits, leaving the vehicle unattended. The runaway trailer traveled a considerable distance of about 200 meters before crashing into a tempo parked further down the road. The collision was so forceful that the tempo was reduced to wreckage. The force of the impact also damaged an electricity transformer located nearby. Miraculously, there were no injuries sustained during the event, highlighting the potential for a much graver outcome. Prompt action by local citizens helped contain the immediate aftermath, and authorities were notified. The police have since investigated the scene and initiated legal proceedings. Reports from onlookers indicate that the road was populated, but thankfully, people’s quick thinking prevented any injuries. The trailer involved has been impounded by the Torpa police.
