The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally charged Rajesh Devgam in a Ranchi court for his alleged support of the CPI-Maoist. The chargesheet accuses Devgam of multiple offenses, including illegal possession of weapons, extortion, and sheltering members of the outlawed Maoist group. The case was filed in the special NIA court in Ranchi and centers around Devgam’s activities in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district. Devgam is charged under the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The original case, investigated by local police, involved the seizure of substantial funds and incriminating items linked to Misir Besra, a prominent CPI (Maoist) figure, in March 2024. The NIA’s investigation, initiated in July 2024, uncovered Devgam’s involvement in facilitating terrorist acts. This included organizing meetings and collecting funds from contractors and business owners on behalf of the banned organization.
