A wave of destruction is hitting farmers in Chainpur, Palamu district, with nilgai herds decimating more than 50 acres of cultivated land. The affected areas, including villages like Kolhua and Karamdih, are experiencing daily incursions by these animals that feast on and flatten crops. Farmers are tirelessly guarding their fields, yet their efforts are proving futile against the relentless onslaught. The local Forest Department has been accused of failing to take decisive action to curb the nilgai menace. Farmers from Mahuliya, Kektuva, Parsia, and surrounding villages have formally requested the Medininagar Divisional Forest Officer to implement measures to protect their crops. Images circulating show nilgai damaging crops like mustard, rye, chickpeas, and potatoes. This escalating situation has sparked anger towards both the Forest Department and the government. The continuous loss has pushed some farmers to abandon farming, creating severe economic distress and leaving them disheartened by their barren fields.
