In Palamu, MGNREGA employees are actively campaigning for permanent job status. A delegation from their union presented a memorandum to the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) on Thursday, requesting their regularization be considered by a three-tiered internal committee. The union stressed that these dedicated workers have been instrumental in rural infrastructure development for numerous years but face an uncertain future due to their contractual employment. The group’s leader, Pankaj Singh, noted that similar regularization efforts by the state government in other departments exclude MGNREGA staff, leading to frustration. Devendra Upadhyay, the state coordinator, expressed that the long-pending demands of the workers deserve serious consideration and prompt action towards regularization. The union indicated readiness to escalate their movement if swift and favorable action is not taken.
