A three-day South Chotanagpur Regional Police Sports Competition kicked off on Friday at the Police Line on Kanke Road in Ranchi. The event was officially opened with a balloon release by Ranchi Zone Inspector General (IG) Manoj Kaushik, accompanied by Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan and the SPs of Simdega and Khunti. During the inauguration, IG Manoj Kaushik addressed the importance of sports, stating that they significantly improve physical and mental agility while also serving as a crucial stress reliever. He recognized the prevalent stress faced by police personnel and affirmed that regular participation in sports is vital for maintaining the necessary fitness levels to manage this pressure. Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan added that sports are a fundamental component of police life, aiding in physical development. He reiterated that a fit police force is essential for effective departmental functioning, making sports a high priority. This regional competition includes a wide array of sports, such as volleyball, basketball, football, handball, hockey, kabaddi, karate, and running events. Athletes who achieve first place will advance to compete in the national games. Teams representing Ranchi, Lohardaga, Simdega, Khunti, and Gumla districts are vying for top honors. The competition promises three days of intense athletic displays by police officers, with many in attendance for the inaugural ceremony.
