Marking World Glaucoma Day, Sadar Hospital Ranchi organized a pivotal awareness extravaganza featuring a morning rally and seminar. Under Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar’s guidance, the program targeted the growing glaucoma menace.
Dr. Kumar inaugurated the procession, joined by administrators, medics, and nursing trainees, to disseminate knowledge on black cataract. The 2023 theme galvanizes global efforts for a glaucoma-free future.
In his address, Deputy CMO Dr. Amrendra Kumar outlined the district-wide Glaucoma Week from March 8-14. Early detection via regular exams is key; BP and diabetes patients face heightened risks, requiring checks every six months.
Dr. Kumar portrayed glaucoma as a creeping adversary, silently eroding eyesight. Red flags: foggy vision, prismatic lights, discomfort in eyes/head, sickness, gradual sight fade, side vision loss. Those 40+ need yearly scrutiny; staff mobilization for awareness was appealed.
Dr. Pritish Pranay, eye expert, detailed optic nerve damage from pressure buildup, leading to irreversible blindness. Age 40+ vulnerable, but all demographics at risk, particularly family histories – semi-annual exams essential. Major blindness driver, demanding prompt action.
Dr. Priya cited additional factors like trauma and medications. The event, attended by health leaders and students, solidified resolve for routine eye health amid prevalent chronic conditions.
