The Jharkhand government is set to enforce stricter penalties for public smoking following the endorsement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Bill, 2021 by President Droupadi Murmu. The revised legislation increases the fine for smoking in public areas to ₹1,000. The bill, which was passed by the Jharkhand Assembly, also addresses other tobacco-related offenses, including the sale of tobacco to individuals under 21 years of age.
