Ranchi police have arrested a man and his two wives for stealing mobile phones during Durga Puja celebrations. The suspects, Kunal Rawani, along with Meera Devi and Deepali Devi, were caught after a series of thefts targeting attendees at the festivities. The family from Balumath, Latehar, had traveled to Ranchi under the pretense of attending the Durga Puja. However, they used the opportunity to steal mobile phones from the crowds. Police and puja committees were on high alert due to the rising number of mobile thefts. The women were caught in the act by a priest, who observed them stealing phones near a Kali temple in Sukhdevnagar. Upon being apprehended, they revealed their husband, Kunal Rawani, was waiting nearby. Police found Kunal with more stolen phones and a motorcycle, the ownership of which he couldn’t prove. All three have been arrested and jailed, with the Sukhdevnagar police handling the case. This incident has caught the attention of the city, as the news of a husband and two wives engaging in theft activities spreads. In a separate incident, Ranchi police had earlier arrested five criminals in September for their involvement in a 35 lakh robbery and other major thefts, recovering 7.50 lakh rupees in cash, stolen jewelry, motorcycles, and mobile phones.
