In a case of cyber fraud, a tenant in Ranchi, Jharkhand, has been arrested for allegedly deceiving his landlady and stealing around ₹1.88 lakhs. The accused, a computer engineering student named Abhishek Kumar, orchestrated the fraud by swapping the landlady’s SIM card with a black SIM. This allowed him to make unauthorized transactions from the victim’s accounts between June 2 and June 15, 2025, using UPI accounts and scanners at Common Service Provider centers. The cybercrime unit is investigating the case. Police have seized four mobile phones from the accused, a resident of Bihar.
