A strong demand for action against alleged illegal stone mining has been raised by Babulal Marandi, the Jharkhand BJP President and Leader of Opposition. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Marandi detailed accusations against Satyanath Sah, a prominent figure in the stone mafia operating in the Borio region of Sahibganj. The complaint details how Sah allegedly exceeded his four-acre mining lease, encroaching upon and illegally excavating from roughly 20 acres. An official investigation initiated by the Sahibganj Deputy Commissioner has corroborated the claims of illegal mining. Marandi estimates that the state has suffered a revenue deficit of around ₹200 crore due to Sah’s alleged malpractices. The BJP leader is pressing for decisive legal steps against the accused, alongside the recovery of the defrauded revenue. Furthermore, he emphasized the urgent need to halt all illegal mining operations and safeguard the informant from any retaliatory threats.
