Om Prakash Sahu’s transition from a life of conflict to a thriving fish farmer has garnered national recognition. Inspired by the ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’, Sahu received crucial support from local authorities to begin his aquaculture venture. This shift inspired over 150 families in the Basia region of Gumla, who had previously been involved in extremism, to abandon violence and embrace fish farming. Sahu, who once stood against Naxalites, initiated fish farming in 2014 after leaving the path of violence. He was provided training and access to ponds under the government scheme. His success has led to significant earnings, estimated at over 7 lakh rupees annually, and has fostered a climate of peace and prosperity.
