The West Singhbhum district is reeling from the effects of heavy rainfall since Friday. The incessant downpour has caused the approach road of the culvert over the Kankuwa River on the Jagannathpur-Jaintgarh main road to collapse entirely, leading to a complete halt in vehicular movement. This has created significant challenges for the local populace. In response, former MP Geeta Koda conducted a site visit on Sunday to evaluate the damage. She engaged with the local community, addressing their concerns and promising swift action. She instructed Public Works Department (PWD) officials to expedite the repair of the culvert and arrange for an alternative route to facilitate continued access for the public. Geeta Koda underscored the importance of prioritizing the public’s ease of movement. She also highlighted the widespread damage to roads, bridges, and schools, and the collapse of numerous dwellings in rural areas due to the persistent rain. The inspection was attended by BJP Jagannathpur Mandal President Rai Bhumij, along with Rohit Kumhar, Dayanidhi Pradhan, Ghanshyam Das, Sanjeev Kumhar, and other residents. The former MP has urged the district administration to promptly repair damaged infrastructure, offer compensation to affected families, connect them to social security programs, and repair road damage to prevent accidents.
