A three-hour rescue mission successfully concluded on Tuesday in Ranchi’s Patrahatu village after a wild hyena took over a classroom in a local government school. The incident began when the animal strayed from the forest and entered the village, causing residents to flee. The animal eventually sought cover inside the school, which was occupied by about 50 students at the time. The immediate reaction of the villagers to lock the classroom door and the teachers’ efforts to keep the children calm were critical in preventing a tragedy. Specialists from the Birsa Munda Biological Park led the rescue effort, working under high pressure to neutralize the threat. The team used professional wildlife handling techniques to safely cage the hyena, ensuring the safety of the surrounding population. This incident has reignited discussions about wildlife safety in the Silli region, which has a history of such encounters.
